Day 15: Fasting Can Change Destiny
Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, as we reflect today on the power of fasting to change destinies, we come before You in humble prayer. You are sovereign over all nations and peoples, directing the course of history according to Your perfect will.
We acknowledge that as individuals and as a society, we often stray from Your ways. Yet through fasting and repentance, Your people have turned the hearts of rulers and altered the fortunes of cities and lands.
Give us ears to hear what Your Spirit may reveal through considering biblical examples like Nineveh and Esther’s time. Open our eyes to see where fasting could shift circumstances in our community or country for Your glory.
As we consider the potential of fasting to impact those around us, stir within us a heart for intercession. Fuel our determination to fast and pray not merely for personal benefit but on behalf of others in need of transformation.
In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Scripture Reading and Reflection
Jeremiah 18:7-10 KJV
At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
Reflection:
The following Bible verses show us that fasting can change not just individuals, but whole nations and their destinies: Jeremiah 18:7-10 (KJV) says, “At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.” We see this clearly in the book of Jonah 3:10 (KJV): “And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.” The mighty city of Nineveh fasted together at Jonah’s message, and as a result God relented from punishing the entire Assyrian empire. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) promises, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” National healing is possible through collective fasting and repentance. Esther also provides an example. She fasted not alone but with her people in Esther 4:16 (KJV): “Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.” Together they cried out to God, impacting not just Esther but the Jewish people’s future in Persia. These accounts teach that through God’s Spirit, fasting empowers nations to repent as one body and spare entire peoples from judgment and transform destinies.Hymn:

1 Great King of nations, hear our prayer, while at your feet we fall, and humbly, with united cry, to you for mercy call.
2 The guilt is ours, but grace is yours, O turn us not away; but hear us from your lofty throne, and help us when we pray.
3 Our fathers’ sins were manifold, and ours no less we own, yet wondrously from age to age your goodness has been shown.
4 When dangers, like a stormy sea, beset our country round, to you we looked, to you we cried, and help in you was found.
5 With one consent we meekly bow beneath your chast’ning hand, and, pouring forth confession meet, mourn with our mourning land.

Creative Activities: 2. Bible Journaling
- Read through the passages written about again slowly. Take time to highlight or underline parts that stand out to you. Consider writing out key verses that speak to the power of fasting.
- As you journal, reflect on how these accounts challenge or inspire you. Is God calling you to fast personally or corporately for specific areas needing change? Document any prayers, insights or areas the Spirit is impressing on your heart.
- Draw images that come to mind as you meditate such as a scales of justice tipping, chains breaking, or a city landscape transforming. You could sketch your own city/nation and write prayer declarations over it.
- Journal any personal ways you sense the Lord desires you to partner with Him through fasting. Document commitments you feel to specific prayers or fasts. Ask God to strengthen your faith in His ability to alter destinies through surrendered people.
- Take time now listening closely to how the Spirit may want to use you as an agent of His will. Seek his heart through studying who He is and how He has worked through fasting in the past. Let these stories renew your hope in a faithful God.
Creative Activities: 3. Doodling
- Draw maps of lands being transformed or scales tipping from judgment to mercy. Scribble, then erase areas being sanctified.
- Sketch hands joined in prayer or bodies humbling themselves before a throne. Doodle curtains parting to reveal God’s glory.
- Use textures like waves or lines unraveling to depict obstacles falling away. Color, collage or highlight certain parts.
- Let your hands wander as you meditate. See what symbolic shapes or scenes flow freely from your pen to depict this theme.
- Allow the process to lift fresh prayers from your heart. Journal them beside the drawings for God to honor His promises through you.

- Journal about any specific areas or spheres of influence God lays upon your heart to fast and pray for when contemplating how fasting can change destinies on personal, community and national levels.

Applying and Taking Action
- Setting a time of personal fasting and prayer over specific issues in your life, family or city.
- Fasting with others in your church or community to intercede for your nation’s restoration.
- Researching issues plaguing your state/country and fasting focused prayers for solutions.
- Joining or starting a prayer gathering for national repentance and revival through fasting.
- Memorizing scriptures about God changing hearts and follow His leading to share them.
- Checking your motives, letting God purify selfish desires driving your fasting.
- Keeping a prayer journal to track God’s faithfulness in answering according to His will.
- Spreading word of answered prayers to motivate and strengthen others’ faith.
Closing Prayer
God of hope, thank You for the way Your Spirit moves through willing hearts that humble themselves in prayer and fasting. Make us vessels used to spread Your transforming love.
Where there is darkness, empower us through surrendered lives of prayer and fasting to act as Your light. Where there is injustice, empower us to stand in the gap through fasting and advocacy until chains of oppression are broken.
Strengthen communities struggling with poverty, addiction or violence as we willingly deny ourselves and lift their needs before Your throne. Breathe revival over nations as Your church fasts and prays for wisdom and leaders after Your own heart.
God, thank You that through prayer and fasting we plant seeds of change. May all who see it know that nothing is impossible when we come to You in prayer and faith. Show others how powerful our prayers can be when joined with fasting.
In Jesus’ all-powerful name, who conquered death so all may live freely, we pray. Amen.
