Day 23: Let Go and Let God

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, as we reflect on learning to let go and let You take control, we pray that You would help us examine our hearts and schedules. Search us for any areas where we have taken on too much or put our trust in our own abilities rather than Yours.

Reveal to us any ways we have become too busy that we neglect spending time with You in prayer and Your word. Forgive us for those times we have relied on ourselves instead of committing our paths to You.

Help us to number our days wisely and prioritize that which is most important. Give us discernment to say no when needed so that we make room to listen for Your leading. And grant us the courage to trust You fully with our whole lives.

May this time we spend reflecting draw our hearts nearer to Yours. Show us through Your word how You desire for us to find rest in You. We ask that You would empower us by Your Spirit to let go of worry and anxiety, and instead let You have complete control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Reflection:

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of constant busyness, filling every moment with activities and commitments. But being overwhelmed and indispensable isn’t spiritual – it actually prevents us from doing God’s work. We can end up fitting Him into our schedules instead of the other way around. Jesus is the perfect example of trusting the Father completely. He only did what He saw the Father doing and said what the Father told Him to say. Even with a busy ministry, Jesus prioritized rest and time with His disciples. He wasn’t a slave to His schedule but allowed God to lead each day. We are called to divide our time prudently according to God’s purposes, not be driven by how much we can pack in. When we are too occupied, it’s hard to listen for His voice or spend intimate moments with Him in prayer and His Word. We may miss the opportunities He sets before us. Instead of relying so much on our own abilities, we need to let go and let God direct our steps. This means saying no when we are becoming overcommitted so we make room for what really matters – our relationship with Christ. It means trusting that God can accomplish more through us without furiously tiring ourselves out. When our worth isn’t defined by how frantic our schedule appears, we have space to be still and know He is God. We find our security and significance in Him alone rather than in how indispensable we feel. May we slow down to follow Jesus’ example of living each day in step with the Father.

Creative Activities: 2. Bible Journaling

Take some time now to interact with Scripture as you reflect on trusting God instead of your own busy-ness. Consider the following prompts:

  • Underline verses that inspire you to slow down and let God direct your steps, such as Psalm 37:5. Circle keywords like “trust” and “commit.”
  • Mark passages showing Jesus’ example, such as time for rest in Mark 6:31. Note how He modeled relying fully on the Father.
  • Write out key points you are taking away in the margins, such as “Say no to overcommitment” or “Listen for God each day.”
  • Sketch doodles/images representing concepts like letting go of a busy schedule or entering God’s rest.
  • Make a list of areas in your life where you feel busyness is crowding out time with God. Bring these before Him in prayer.
  • Think through steps to restructure routines and responsibilities in obedience to God’s leading.

Engaging with Scripture helps apply its truths personally. Reflect deeply as you interact creatively with God’s word today.

Creative Activities: 3. Doodling

  As an extension of journaling, try incorporating some loose doodling as you ponder lessons from God’s word. With pen in hand but no objective in mind, see where your creative spirit may flow:
  • Scribble shapes and lines representing concepts like “letting go of busyness.” Trace over any motifs that emerge intuitively.
  • Sketch simple scenes from Jesus’ life that depict relying on the Father, such as time with disciples.
  • Allow designs, patterns or symbols to take shape randomly on the page under God’s leading. Pay attention to any details that stand out.
  • Experiment with texture, color and shading without overthinking. Bright colors could denote God’s presence; shadow areas represent reliance on Him.
  • Feel free to blend structured and abstract elements as needed. Messiness implies relying wholly on the Holy Spirit rather than our own efforts.
Ponder prayerfully as your doodles unfold. Insights may arise that words alone cannot convey. By releasing creative control, we make room for God to impress impressions uniquely on our hearts. Applying and Taking Action

  Spending time reflecting is only meaningful if it results in positive changes. Consider prayerfully how God may be calling you to take a step of obedience in response to your insights today. Some ideas:
  • Schedule unstructured “margin” into your calendar each day/week to quiet your spirit and listen for God’s voice.
  • Say no to one commitment that has become a distraction from important priorities like family or spiritual growth.
  • Introduce a practice like daily Scripture reading, prayer walking or journaling your thoughts to connect with God regularly.
  • Schedule an unhurried conversation with a friend or mentoring time with someone you can encourage in their faith.
Commit your plan to the Lord, then follow through consistently with His strength. Note your progress, and don’t be discouraged by stumbling – growth is gradual. Focusing less on busyness and more on following Jesus’ example of rest and obedience will deepen your trust as you watch Him accomplish His purposes through you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us through Your Word how to faithfully follow Your lead each day. We confess that often we try to control our own schedules and take on more than You intend. Forgive us for relying on our busyness instead of resting fully in You.

As we have reflected today on slowing down and letting go, we ask that You empower us by Your Spirit to walk in obedience to the steps You are calling us to take. Grant us the wisdom and courage to simplify our lives so we can listen for Your voice above all other noise.

Help us to faithfully apply the insights You have given through time spent studying Your truth. And Lord, we ask that You continue molding our hearts to be more like Christ – dependent on You, prioritizing intimacy with You above all.

May our lives honor You as we focus less on being indispensable and more on following your example of trusting You completely. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
