Day 39: Christ Is Our Life

Opening Prayer

opening prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You today acknowledging that You are the source of our very life and being. Thank You that through faith in Your Son Jesus, we have been united with Him in His death and resurrection. You have made us alive with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms. We pray that You would strengthen our inner being so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith. May the reality of Your surpassing great love for us compel us to set our minds and hearts fully on You. Help us to truly grasp the depth of Your grace that we are complete in Christ, who is our very life. As we reflect on Christ as our life, reveal more of Yourself to us by Your Spirit. We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.

Scripture Reading and Reflection

christ is our life

Colossians 3:1-4 KJV

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Reflection:

Through faith in Jesus, we have been rescued from sin’s death grip and made alive with Christ (Col. 2:13). No longer do we live for ourselves, but Christ lives in us (Gal. 2:20). He who is our life appeared to destroy death and bring life and immortality to light through the gospel (2 Tim. 1:10). As the Scriptures declare, our old self was crucified with Christ so that our body of sin might be rendered powerless (Rom. 6:6). We have been buried with Him through baptism into His death, just as Christ was raised from the dead (Rom. 6:4; Col. 2:12). Now, as those who have received new resurrection life, we are called to set our hearts and minds on what is above, where Christ is seated at God’s right hand (Col. 3:1-2). Abiding in Christ through the Spirit, we can bear much fruit. Apart from Him we can do nothing (Jn. 15:5). It is no longer we who live, but Christ lives in us (Gal. 2:20). He is our life – when He appears, we will also appear with Him in glory (Col. 3:4). With this eternal perspective, we are enabled to put to death earthly passions and live for righteousness (Col. 3:5). Christ, who is our life, calls us to walk in newness of life.

Hymn:

Alive in Christ

1 Alive in Christ! oh, happy day When from the death of sin I rose; Sweet was the new birth’s glorious thrill, And day by day ‘tis sweeter still. Alive in Christ! my spirit glows And my glad heart sings on its way, As it recounts the wondrous word That reconciled me to my Lord.

2 Alive in Christ! I grow in grace, And joyous tread the upward road; Holding communion sweet with God, I pass the mystic vales of sin: Alive in Christ! yes, all within Is purged from guilt and purified; I closer seek my Saviour’s side, And joy to see his smiling face.

3 ‘Tis done, complete in Christ I stand; All former joys are lost in this,— The deep, subdued subduing bliss, Lord I am naught: thou, thou, art all. May thy sweet peace forever fall On me, for my poor will is gone, Thine is the best, let thine be done; For so I love thee, O my God.

closing prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the indescribable gift of new life in Christ Jesus our Lord. May we never take for granted the miracle of Your resurrection power at work within us. As we close this time reflecting on Christ as our very life, we surrender afresh to Your Holy Spirit’s control. Fill us and empower us to live moment by moment fully dependent on Your grace. May Your life flow freely through every part of us to impact those around us. Use our lives, dear God, as vessels of Your light, love and truth. We ask that You would strengthen our union with You through continual nurturing of faith, hope and love. And may all we do and say honor Your beautiful name. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
