Day 25: Faith and Hope

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You today giving You thanks. Thank You for the precious gifts of faith and hope that You have given us through Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Faith and hope are such vital parts of our lives as believers. Faith gives us assurance in unseen promises and hope anchors our souls as we await the full revelation of Your kingdom.

We pray that as we spend time reflecting on faith and hope today, You would strengthen both within us. Deepen our faith to firmly trust in Your goodness, Your faithfulness, and Your word. Kindle our hope so that it serves as a light to our paths and motivation for living each day to Your glory.

By Your Holy Spirit, open our eyes to see new dimensions of how faith and hope are intertwined. Teach us from Your Scriptures and lead our thoughts. Have Your way in our hearts.

We ask all this in the strong and faithful name of Jesus. Amen.

Scripture Reading and Reflection

Hebrews 11:1 KJV

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Reflection:

Faith and hope are intrinsically linked, with faith providing the foundation for our hope in Christ. At the core of both is an anchoring in the promises and truths of God’s Word. Faith enables us to experience God’s presence and trust in His character here and now. It deals with present realities and unseen spiritual truths that are current. Hope, on the other hand, focuses our eyes ahead to future realities not yet seen – the culmination of God’s redemptive plan and our ultimate salvation in Him. Romans 10:17 tells us “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Our faith is birthed and nourished solely from attentive listening to the message of Scripture. As we immerse ourselves in the stories of God’s faithfulness throughout history, His character and attributes are revealed, increasing our trust in Him. Hebrews 11:1 describes faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Even though we might not physically witness God’s promises come to fruition, faith gives us a confident assurance in what we hope for based on His Word. It provides substance or reality to our future expectations in God alone. It is an eternal perspective. This faith then gives rise to our Christian hope. The apostle Paul connects the two, saying in Ephesians 2:8 that “By grace you have been saved through faith…it is the gift of God.” Our salvation is a gift received through faith alone. And it is this faith-wrought salvation which fuels our “living hope” as 1 Peter 1:3 describes. This hope provides light for each new day as we journey toward our heavenly destination. Paul prays in Romans 15:13 that God would “fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Both faith and hope flow from immersion in the Word of truth. May we daily feast on God’s promises to strengthen the faith and hope He has given through His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Creative Activities: 2. Bible Journaling

Use creative ways of interacting with Scripture to reflect on faith and hope being rooted in God’s Word. Consider these journaling prompts:
  • Highlight key verses about faith coming from hearing the Word, like Romans 10:17. Note connections between passages.
  • Underline portions of God’s promises in Scripture that give you hope. Praise Him in the margins.
  • Sketch symbols of faith (anchor) and hope (sunrise) next to verses that inspire these virtues.
  • Write out Hebrews 11:1 in your own words in the margins to internalize its meaning.
  • Pray Scripture back to God, thanking Him for the faith and hope He cultivates through His Word.
  • Doodle motifs inspired by verses read to deepen your reflection time.
Creatively engaging with the Word trains our hearts and minds to meditate on its truths. May your Bible journaling today strengthen both faith and hope in Christ.

Creative Activities: 3. Doodling

  Take some time to doodle freely as you meditate on repenting from sin. Allow your drawings to represent handing specific sins over to God through Jesus. You could:
  • Draw shapes or scribbles that symbolize surrendering areas of unrighteousness you identified earlier.
  • Sketch simple images from Bible verses like crossed out thought bubbles for “turning from sin.”
  • Doodle patterns like raindrops falling to depict cleansing and forgiveness through repentance.
  • Add textures like zigzags for conviction of areas still needing work.
  • Include symbols like a cross as you pray through a list of ways to turn more fully to God.
Let your doodles take form freely without overthinking. Insights may emerge through your drawings to deepen true repentance from your heart. Applying and Taking Action

  Taking time to reflect on faith and hope is meant to lead to vibrant practice in our lives. Consider:
  • What specific step is God leading you to take to strengthen your faith through His Word this week? Commit to regular Bible reading/study.
  • How can you intentionally cultivate hope through recalling God’s past faithfulness and promises? Display reminders or share with others.
  • Pray for one another to walk by faith daily, not sight. Ask God for boldness and assurance in sharing your testimony.
  • Are there any areas where decreased faith or hope need addressed through repentance and God’s empowering grace? Bring these before Him.
Note tangible ways to act in faith’s obedience this week through service, praying for others, generosity.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for strengthening our faith and hope through reflecting on Your living Word today. By Your Spirit, keep our eyes fixed on You and Your promises as revealed in scripture. During times this week when our faith or hope may waver, remind us of Your faithfulness through every generation.

Guide us as we seek to actively cultivate these virtues. May our lives demonstrate obedient faith through acts of love and service. Fill our hearts with hope in all circumstances as we anticipate the glory You have prepared for Your people.

Thank You for hearing us as we pray these things in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
