Day 35: God’s Greatest Act of Love

Opening Prayer

opening prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You in awe of Your infinite love shown to us through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross. Grant us hearts full of gratitude and wonder as we reflect on the greatest act of love the world has ever known. Open our eyes by Your Spirit to more fully comprehend the depth, breadth and height of Your lovingkindness shown through Christ’s death for our sins. May this time spent in Your word draw us nearer to You. Fill our hearts with praise for Your mercy and grace, and with determination to share the hope we have in Christ with others. We pray in the name that is above all names, the name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Scripture Reading and Reflection

jesus sacrifice

Romans 5:8 KJV

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Reflection:

There is no greater demonstration of God’s love than the sacrifice of His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross for our sins. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). When we were utterly lost, helpless and unworthy, Jesus willingly laid down His life to save us.

As John 3:16 declares, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God did not send His Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it through Him (John 3:17). It was an act of pure, unconditional love that knows no bounds.

At the cross, we see the triune God acting in perfect unity to rescue mankind. “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10). On Calvary, Jesus became “sin who knew no sin” so that through Him we could become “the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Through His death, we have redemption and access to the Father (Ephesians 2:18; Hebrews 10:19-20).

There is no greater love than laying down one’s life for another. On the cross, God definitively proved His love for us through Christ’s ultimate self-sacrifice. We will never fully comprehend this love, but it calls us to worshipful gratitude and wholehearted devotion to our Savior.

Hymn:

The Love of God

1 The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell; it goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell. The wand’ring child is reconciled by God’s beloved Son. The aching soul again made whole, and priceless pardon won.

Refrain: O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure— the saints’ and angels’ song.

2 When ancient time shall pass away, and human thrones and kingdoms fall; when those who here refuse to pray on rocks and hills and mountains call; God’s love so sure, shall still endure, all measureless and strong; grace will resound the whole earth round— the saints’ and angels’ song. [Refrain]

3 Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made; were ev’ry stalk on earth a quill, and ev’ryone a scribe by trade; to write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry; nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky. [Refrain]

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute. Even though our ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
