Day 33: Preaching Christ Crucified

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You in awe of Your great love shown through the cross of Christ. Thank You that the message of a crucified Savior remains the power of salvation for all who believe. As we reflect on preaching Him, dispel any reluctance within us and fill us afresh with Your Spirit. May our eyes be open to see all sufficiency in a slain and risen Lord. Help us appreciate more deeply the wonder and significance of His atoning death. Mold our hearts to passionately proclaim this crucified Christ to a lost world bound in darkness. May Your Word accomplish its intended purpose through our words. We ask in Jesus’ victorious name, Amen.

1 Corinthians 1:22-25 KJV

For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Reflection:

From the outset, the disciples understood their calling to herald the good news of a crucified Messiah. Though a stumbling block to religious pride and folly to worldly wisdom, they found salvation’s only source in a slain Lamb. As Paul wrote, “For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:22-24) By His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus destroyed sin, death and devil’s power. The cross was not an embarrassment but glory’s display, not defeat but triumph over sin and darkness. It revealed God’s marvelous grace and Christ’s perfect self-sacrificing love. Having seen these matchless heights of condescension, the early church was compelled to declare Christ and Him crucified. Their message centered not on philosophy but historic fact – a Man of sorrows nailed to wooden beams, drained of life for others’ ransomed souls. Like them, may we find exclusive sufficiency in a Savior whose blood still speaks better things. May a crucified Jesus captivate our devotion and dominate our Gospel heralding. When all else fails, His atoning death yet stands supreme, eternal remedy for souls in terminal diagnosis of sin.

Take your Bible and journal to meditate on preaching Christ crucified:

  • Read 1 Cor. 1:22-25 slowly, underlining or highlighting key phrases.
  • In the margins, sketch simple pictures of a cross, crown of thorns, empty tomb.
  • Write out the verses creatively, incorporating design elements like torn paper or ink textures.
  • Add your own thoughts, prayers or praise in response to God’s Word.
  • Doodle symbols of redemption, such as flowing scarlet streams or open prison doors.

Entrust your heart anew to the crucified Savior as you journal, and pray to faithfully declare His glory with boldness.

Take time now to prayerfully doodle around verses about Christ crucified:

  • Scribble crosses intermingled with images of grace, peace and victory.
  • Draw overflowing chalices to represent His blood shed for many.
  • Freely doodle areas indicating the immeasurable depth of God’s love shown.
  • Doodle hearts with nails or crowns to meditate on His suffering for joy set before Him.
  • Interweave doodles of open Bibles and evangelistic words like “preach” and “proclaim”.

As you conclude, consider purposeful next steps:

  • Look for everyday chances to relate Christ’s sacrifice to unbelieving family/friends.
  • Seek opportunities this week to support gospel sharing through prayer or acts of service.
  • Read Scripture passages about the crucifixion aloud, contemplating their rich truths.
  • Note how the cross compels and equips you to forgive others freely as Christ forgave.
  • Ask God to burden your heart for lost souls and open doors to help direct them to Him.
  • Commit to journaling or discussing with fellow believers how Christ’s death impacts your life.

May reflecting afresh on this vital message strengthen your witness and prayer in proclaiming Him to the world.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the salvation found only through our crucified Lord Jesus. May Your Spirit keep our eyes fixed squarely on Christ and Him crucified. Help us to never grow tired or ashamed of preaching this powerful message. May we find fresh passion to proclaim the good news of forgiveness and peace through His death. Give us opportunities and boldness to speak of His amazing love. Draw unbelievers to the wonders of Calvary’s cross. Strengthen and encourage fellow believers as we meditate on redemption accomplished. May our lives consistently reflect the glory and grace revealed there. We pray in Jesus’ victorious name. Amen.
