Kingdom Devotional – Seeking Intimacy in the Wrong Places

In every heart, God placed a longing to be known and loved – but when that longing isn’t rooted in Him, it can lead us into harmful places. Many seek intimacy through attention, relationships, or even sexual connections that promise closeness but leave the soul emptier than before.
The world tells us that physical intimacy will fill the void, but only spiritual intimacy with God can truly satisfy the human heart. This is why Jesus said in John 4:13–14 (ESV),
“Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty forever.”
When we look to people or physical pleasure for the love only God can give, we are drinking from broken wells. As the Lord said in Jeremiah 2:13 (ESV),
“My people have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.”
Even sexual intimacy, which God designed as a beautiful expression of covenant love within marriage of a man and woman, becomes destructive when separated from His design. It cannot heal loneliness or replace the security that comes from knowing we are fully loved and accepted by our Creator.
True intimacy begins in the secret place – in our relationship with God. When we abide in Him, our need for love, belonging, and affirmation finds its right place and order. Every other relationship flows from that wholeness.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself… neither can you, unless you abide in me.” — John 15:4 (ESV)
Reflection:
Are you seeking closeness, comfort, or validation in ways that pull you away from God’s presence? He isn’t condemning you – He is inviting you back to Himself, the true source of love and intimacy.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times we have sought love and closeness apart from You. Heal the places in our hearts that crave what only You can fill. Teach us to rest in Your love and honor You in every relationship and desire. Draw us closer to Your heart, where true intimacy begins. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
End Times Series – Part 9: The Throne in Heaven
After the letters to the seven churches, the scene in Revelation shifts dramatically. The focus moves from the Church on earth to the glory of Heaven – and what John witnesses next takes our breath away.
“After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.’” — Revelation 4:1 (ESV)
This marks the transition from Christ’s message to His Church to the unveiling of future events. Some see John’s invitation to “come up here” as a symbol of the rapture – the Church being caught up to Heaven before the tribulation begins (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17). Whether symbolic or prophetic, the message is clear: God is inviting His people into His presence to see from Heaven’s perspective.
The Throne – The Center of Heaven
“At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne.” — Revelation 4:2 (ESV)
Everything in Heaven centers on the throne of God. John doesn’t first see angels, or saints, or golden streets – he sees the throne. It represents God’s ultimate sovereignty, authority, and power over all creation.
“And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald.” — Revelation 4:3 (ESV)
The jasper (clear and radiant) symbolizes God’s holiness and glory. The carnelian (deep red) reflects His justice and sacrifice. And the emerald rainbow reminds us of His mercy and covenant faithfulness – a powerful combination of justice and grace.
The Surrounding Worship
Around the throne are 24 elders clothed in white with golden crowns (Revelation 4:4). They likely represent the redeemed people of God, the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles, symbolizing the fullness of His covenant family.
Then John describes flashes of lightning and peals of thunder (Revelation 4:5), echoes of God’s majesty, purity, and power. Before the throne burn seven torches of fire, “which are the seven spirits of God”, representing the fullness and perfection of the Holy Spirit.
And before the throne is “a sea of glass, like crystal” (Revelation 4:6) symbolizing peace and purity before God, untouched by sin or chaos.
The Living Creatures and Eternal Worship
John then sees four living creatures, full of eyes, representing divine wisdom and watchfulness. Each has a different form: a lion, an ox, a man, and an eagle (Revelation 4:7).
These are not mythical beings but heavenly ones symbolizing God’s character – strength, service, intelligence, and majesty.
They cry day and night:
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” — Revelation 4:8 (ESV)
Their worship never ends because God’s holiness never changes. Every time they glorify Him, the 24 elders fall down, casting their crowns before the throne, saying:
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” — Revelation 4:11 (ESV)
Reflection – Living with a Heavenly Focus
Revelation 4 reminds us that the throne of God is the center of all reality.
No matter what happens on earth – chaos, war, deception, or persecution – Heaven is not shaken. God reigns, and everything is under His authority.
When we live with this vision in mind, fear loses its grip. We stop focusing on what’s falling apart and start focusing on Who is holding it all together.
Let us remember: our story doesn’t end in the world’s chaos but in God’s glory.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help us to live with eyes lifted to Your throne. Teach us to see life from Heaven’s perspective, trusting that You reign over all things. Fill our hearts with awe, reverence, and worship for Your holiness. May our lives reflect Heaven’s order, centered on You.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY
We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute and Axx Bible College. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV
We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
