Weekly Creative Devotional
Opening Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, as we turn the pages of the short book of Obadiah this week, guide us to understand its message of judgment and redemption. Grant us the humility to recognize our shortcomings and the strength to live according to Your will. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
READING
Obadiah 1:5
Though you soar high like the eagle, though your nest is set among the stars, from there I will bring you down, declares the Lord.
REFLECTION
The prophet Obadiah delivers a scathing message to the nation of Edom, a people known for their pride and arrogance. They had mocked Israel’s misfortune and even participated in its destruction. Obadiah warns them that no matter how powerful or secure they feel, God will ultimately bring them down if they fail to repent. Consider:- In what areas of your life might there be a tendency towards pride or arrogance?
- How can cultivating humility lead to a closer relationship with God?
MEMORIZING THE VERSE
Let Obadiah 1:5 (ESV) serve as a reminder this week: “Though you soar high like the eagle, though your nest is set among the stars, from there I will bring you down, declares the Lord.” Remember, true strength comes from humility and dependence on God.
CREATING AND MEDITATING
Choose a creative activity: Option 1: Create a “humility tree.” Draw a tree and on each leaf, write down something you are grateful for. Reflecting on God’s blessings can be a powerful antidote to pride. Option 2: Read a story or parable from the Bible that highlights the dangers of pride and the importance of humility. Examples include King Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 4) or the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14). Consider how these stories can be applied to your own life.TAKING ACTION AND APPLYING
Humility isn’t weakness; it’s acknowledging your limitations and dependence on God. This week, choose an act of humility. Perhaps it’s apologizing to someone you have wronged, offering to help someone in need, or simply listening attentively to another person’s perspective.
Hymn
Humility
1 Humility, thou secret vale, Unknown to proud in heart; Where show’rs of blessing never fail, And glories ne’er depart.
Refrain: Oh, make thy blest abode with me, Thou angel of the sky; If I may ever dwell with thee, My soul shall never die.
2 Humility, how pure thy place! Thou seat of holiness! Thou door of entrance into grace And everlasting bliss! [Refrain]
3 Humility, how calm the breast That knows thy peace sublime! Within thy courts our perfect rest Grows sweeter all the time. [Refrain]
4 Humility, thou shoreless sea Of perfect love so deep! Thy crystal waters cover me, My helpless soul to keep. [Refrain]

Closing Prayer
Dear Father in Heaven, we repent of our tendencies towards pride and arrogance. Forgive us for these shortcomings. Help us to cultivate genuine humility in our hearts and minds. May we live in dependence on You and reflect Your love in all we do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY
We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV
We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
