Weekly Creative Devotional

Opening Prayer

Gracious God, as we light the second Advent candle, we thank you for the hope and peace found in Christ. May our hearts be prepared for His coming. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

READING

Mark 1:3

The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

REFLECTION

Reflect on the call to prepare the way for the Lord. Consider the areas in your life where you can make His paths straight. How can you actively prepare your heart and mind for the coming of Christ this Advent season?

MEMORIZING THE VERSE

Commit Mark 1:3 to memory. Let these words guide your thoughts and prayers as you prepare for the coming of the Lord.

CREATING AND MEDITATING

Choose a creative activity:
  1. Advent Garland: Create a garland with symbols representing ways you are preparing for Christ’s coming. Hang it as a visual reminder.
  2. Reflective Prayer: Set aside time for reflective prayer. Consider using a candle to symbolize the light of Christ and spend moments in quiet contemplation.

TAKING ACTION AND APPLYING

Consider practical steps to prepare the way:
  1. Acts of Kindness: Engage in intentional acts of kindness. Make a conscious effort to bring peace and joy to those around you.
  2. Scripture Reflection: Set aside time each day to reflect on Advent Scriptures. Allow the Word of God to guide and shape your thoughts.

Hymn

On Jordan’s Bank the Baptist’s Cry

1.

On Jordan’s bank the Baptist’s cry announces that the Lord is nigh. Awake and harken, for he brings glad tidings of the King of kings!

2.

Then cleansed be every life from sin: make straight the way for God within, and let us all our hearts prepare for Christ to come and enter there.

3.

We hail you as our Savior, Lord, our refuge and our great reward. Without your grace we waste away like flowers that wither and decay.

4.

Stretch forth your hand, our health restore, and make us rise to fall no more. O let your face upon us shine and fill the world with love divine.

5.

All praise to you, eternal Son, whose advent has our freedom won, whom with the Father we adore, and Holy Spirit, evermore.

Words: Charles Coffin, translated by John Chandler, Music: WINCHESTER NEW

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, as we prepare the way for the coming of Your Son, grant us the wisdom to make His paths straight in our lives. May the light of Christ illuminate our hearts and bring peace to the world. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute and Axx Bible College. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
