Lamentations 3:31-32

For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love.

REFLECTION

The book of Lamentations is a raw and honest cry of sorrow, yet even in the depths of despair, hope emerges. These verses remind us that God’s discipline and the trials we face are not without purpose. His compassion and steadfast love endure beyond our pain, offering restoration and peace. When life feels overwhelming, it’s comforting to remember that grief is not the end of the story. God’s mercy is vast, and His faithfulness is unshakable. Even in seasons of sorrow, His compassion is a promise we can cling to. Consider:
  • How can you find hope in God’s compassion during difficult times?
  • Have you experienced moments where God’s mercy restored you after a season of grief?
  • How can you share this hope with others who are struggling?

MEMORIZING THE VERSE

Memorize Lamentations 3:31-32 (ESV): “For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love.” Spend time this week focusing on this truth. Write the verse in a journal or as a decorative piece for your home, letting it be a reminder of God’s faithfulness even in hardship.

CREATING AND MEDITATING

Choose a creative activity: Option 1: Hope in the Ashes Art. Create a watercolor or mixed-media piece that symbolizes hope emerging from despair. Use colors or imagery that reflect God’s compassion breaking through the darkness. Option 2: Compassion Scripture Meditation. Write Lamentations 3:31-32 in a journal and meditate on the words daily. Break the verse into parts, reflecting on phrases like “the Lord will not cast off forever” and “the abundance of His steadfast love.” Journal your thoughts and prayers each day as you experience God’s comfort.

TAKING ACTION AND APPLYING

This week, reach out to someone who may be grieving or struggling. Share a kind word, Scripture, or prayer that points them to God’s compassion. Let them know they are not alone and that God’s mercy is always available to them.

Hymn

Count Your Mercies

1 Are you heavy laden and with sorrow tried? Look to faith to Christ, your Helper, Friend, and Guide; Think of all your mercies, such a boundless store, Tears will change to praises as you count them o’er.

Chorus: Count your mercies, such a boundless store, Count your mercies, pressed and running o’er, All your mercies, count them o’er and o’er, Lost in love and wonder at the boundless store.

2 Think of hidden dangers He has bro’t you thro’, Of the cares and burdens He has borne for you, Of His words of comfort in your deepest need, Count the times when Jesus proved a Friend indeed. [Chorus]

3 Does your pathway darken when the clouds draw near? Count your many mercies, dry the flowing tear; Trust Him in the shadows dim and have no fear; “Heav’n will be the sweeter for the dark down here.” [Chorus]

4 As He looks from heaven down on you and me, Know you not He chooseth what each day shall be? Trust His loving wisdom, tho’ the hot tears start, Give to Him the incense of a grateful heart. [Chorus]

Words: Flora Kirkland, Music: Chas. H. Gabriel

Closing Prayer

Gracious God, thank You for Your abundant mercy and steadfast love. When we feel lost or broken, remind us of Your compassion that never fails. Help us to trust in Your promises and to extend Your hope to those around us. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
