READING

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

REFLECTION

Reflect on the words of 1 Thessalonians 5:11. Contemplate the importance of encouragement in fostering a supportive community. Consider how your words and actions can have a positive impact on those around you. Ponder the ways in which you can actively participate in building others up.

MEMORIZING THE VERSE

Write down and memorize 1 Thessalonians 5:11. Let this verse serve as a reminder of your role in encouraging and uplifting others as part of your Christian journey.

CREATING AND MEDITATING

In this part of the devotional, you have the option to choose between two creative activities:
  1. Kindness Art: Create a piece of art that symbolizes kindness and encouragement. Use colors, shapes, and symbols that evoke feelings of support and compassion. Reflect on the impact of encouragement as you create.
  2. Encouragement Cards: Craft small cards with uplifting messages. Consider specific people in your life who might benefit from these messages. Write down words of encouragement and distribute the cards to brighten someone’s day.

TAKING ACTION AND APPLYING

Consider practical ways to spread encouragement:
  1. Active Listening: Pay attention to those around you. Listen actively and respond with empathy, offering words of affirmation and support when needed.
  2. Random Acts of Kindness: Engage in small acts of kindness throughout your day. Hold the door for someone, offer a genuine compliment, or help a stranger in need.
  3. Encouragement Challenge: Set a goal to encourage at least one person each day for a week. Whether through a text, a call, or a simple note, intentionally uplift others.
  4. Speak Life: Be mindful of your words. Use positive language that uplifts and encourages, avoiding negative or critical expressions.

Hymn

Brighten The Corner Where You Are

1.

Do not wait until some deed of greatness you may do, Do not wait to shed your light afar; To the many duties ever near you now be true, Brighten the corner where you are.

Refrain: Brighten the corner where you are! Brighten the corner where you are! Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar; Brighten the corner where you are!

2.

Just above are clouded skies that you may help to clear, Let not narrow self your way debar; Though into one heart alone may fall your song of cheer, Brighten the corner where you are.

Refrain: Brighten the corner where you are! Brighten the corner where you are! Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar; Brighten the corner where you are!

3.

Here for all your talent you may surely find a need, Here reflect the bright and Morning Star; Even from your humble hand the Bread of Life may feed, Brighten the corner where you are.

Refrain: Brighten the corner where you are! Brighten the corner where you are! Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar; Brighten the corner where you are!

Words: Ina D. Ogdon, Music: Charles H. Gabriel

Closing Prayer

Gracious God, we thank you for the gift of encouragement. As we conclude this time of reflection and creativity, guide us in becoming instruments of your love and support. May our words and actions reflect your heart of kindness. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
