Word Bible Study Method

There are many different ways and methods to study the Bible – you can read the whole Bible, you can study the Bible book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, thematically, topically, by character, biographically, etc. In this blog post we will teach you how do a word Bible study.

Here is how you do a Word Bible Study:

1. Pray

Before you start your Bible study, you should pray to God and ask Him to guide and help you in your Bible study.

2. Choose a word within a Bible verse

Please never choose a random word but always choose a Bible verse first and then pick a word from this verse because it is important to always study in context as words can have different meanings in different verses.

3. Read the verse with your chosen word in different Bible translations

Read the verse with your word in different Bible translations so you can see how Bible scholars have translated it.

4. Use the lexicon tool to get the translation and meaning of the word

Use a lexicon tool such as Biblehub.com and look up the translations and meanings of the word. In Biblehub.com you 1. enter the Bible verse, then several translations of the verse will be shown, 2. click on “Lexicon” near the top. You will get the English words, the Hebrew words, and the definitions.

5. Use an online concordance

In Biblehub.com while still on the lexicon page, click on “Strong’s” at the top of the page, and you will get all the most relevant cross reference verses of your chosen Bible verse. Reading these cross references will give you a clearer picture of your word.

6. End with prayer

You should always end your Bible study with prayer thanking God for what He has revealed to you. Ask God for helping you apply the verses and findings to your own life and to share them with other people.

The Word Bible Study Method is ideal for you if you want to study the biblical meaning of a certain word.

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute. Even though our ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
