Weekly Creative Devotional
Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, as we dive into the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, open our hearts to understand the deep truths of the Beatitudes. Help us to align our lives with the values of Your kingdom and live out the blessings You have promised. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
READING
Matthew 5:3-4
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
REFLECTION
The Beatitudes in Matthew 5 introduce us to the values of God’s kingdom. Each “blessed” statement reveals a paradox about what it means to live a life of faith. The world often values strength, success, and self-sufficiency, but Jesus flips those values upside down, reminding us that spiritual poverty, mourning, meekness, and hunger for righteousness are pathways to true blessing. Being “poor in spirit” speaks of humility and dependence on God. It’s a recognition that we cannot rely on our own strength but must lean on God’s grace. Mourning refers to a deep sorrow over sin and suffering in the world, but God promises comfort for those who grieve. As we embrace these kingdom values, we find true happiness – not based on circumstances, but grounded in our relationship with God. Consider:- What does it mean to be “poor in spirit” in your own life? How can you cultivate humility and reliance on God?
- Where in your life are you mourning or experiencing loss? How can you trust God’s promise of comfort?
MEMORIZING THE VERSE
Choose a verse from the Beatitudes to memorize and meditate on this week. For example, Matthew 5:6 (ESV): “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Let this verse be a reminder that God satisfies the deepest longings of your heart when you seek His righteousness.
CREATING AND MEDITATING
Choose a creative activity: Option 1: Beatitudes Art Journaling. Use a journal page to creatively illustrate one or more of the Beatitudes. Use watercolors, colored pencils, or even magazine cutouts to create a visual representation of these blessings. As you create, meditate on how these kingdom values are present in your own life, and let the process of art-making be a time of prayer and reflection. Option 2: Prayer Walk Reflecting on the Beatitudes. Take a prayer walk in your neighborhood or a nearby park. As you walk, meditate on each of the Beatitudes. Reflect on how they apply to your life and your community. Stop at different locations and pray for those who may be “poor in spirit” or “mourning.” Ask God to help you embody these values in your interactions and to bring comfort and blessing to others through you.TAKING ACTION AND APPLYING
This week, put the Beatitudes into practice. Choose one value – such as humility, mercy, or peacemaking – and intentionally live it out in your relationships, work, or community. For example, if you choose “Blessed are the merciful,” look for opportunities to show forgiveness or kindness to others, reflecting God’s mercy.
Hymn
The Beatitudes
The Beatitudes, the Beatitudes, Sermon on the mountain top. Blessed, O blessed.
1 Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
2 Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted.
3 Blessed are the meek for they shall be filled.
4 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness. For they shall be filled.
5 Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.
6 Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
7 Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God.
8 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness.
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and say all manner of evil against you, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Amen amen.

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY
We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute and Axx Bible College. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV
We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
