Jesus Christ’s Nature

When it comes to Jesus’ Nature, He is the one of the triune God who has a very special nature. He is the second person of the trinity and has two natures – a godly and a human nature. He is fully God and fully man. Furthermore, He incarnated on earth in human flesh. The word incarnation means “the act of being made flesh”. In John 1:14 we can read “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Now let’s dig into Scripture to learn more about Jesus’ humanity. Here are some verses that show Jesus’ humanity.

Jesus needed sleep

and as they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger. Luke 8:23

Jesus needed food

And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. Matthew 4:2 In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he became hungry. Matthew 21:18

Jesus needed physical protection

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” Matthew 2:13-15 Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands. John 10:39

Jesus perspired

And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Luke 22:43-44

Jesus bled

But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. John 19:34

Jesus could feel joy

These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. John 15:11

Jesus felt sorrow

And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Matthew 26:37

Jesus suffered

Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 1 Peter 4:1

Jesus wept

Jesus wept. John 11:35

Jesus felt anger

And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. Mark 3:5

Jesus referred to Himself as man

but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. John 8:40

Jesus had an ordinary job

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Mark 6:3

Jesus’ humanity was still recognized after His resurrection

“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— Acts 2:22

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
