Weekly Creative Devotional

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, as we draw near to the final days of Advent, we celebrate the greatest gift of all – Your love made flesh in the birth of Jesus. May our hearts be open to receive and reflect this love. Help us to live in the light of Your love and share it with those around us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

READING

1 John 4:9-10

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we have loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

REFLECTION

The fourth Advent is traditionally focused on love – the love of God that was made manifest in the person of Jesus Christ. In 1 John, we are reminded that God’s love is not earned or deserved but is freely given. Jesus, God’s greatest gift to us, came to show us what true love looks like: self-sacrificial, unconditional, and life-giving. As we prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth, reflect on this amazing love. How does the love of God change the way we live, love others, and view our world? Consider:
  • How can you receive and reflect God’s love this Christmas season?
  • In what ways can you express love, especially to those who may feel overlooked or unloved?

MEMORIZING THE VERSE

Take time to dwell 1 John 4:9-10 (ESV): “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.” Take time to let this verse remind you of the depth of God’s love and how it compels you to love others.

CREATING AND MEDITATING

Choose a creative activity: Option 1: Love Journal. Create a special journal to document the ways God’s love is evident in your life throughout Advent. Each day, write down one specific way you have experienced God’s love, and reflect on how you can share that love with someone else. Option 2: Heart of Love Art. Use a blank canvas or art journal to create a piece of art that reflects the love of God at Christmas. You can incorporate symbols of love like hearts, light, and the manger. As you create, meditate on how God’s love has changed your life.

TAKING ACTION AND APPLYING

This week, let God’s love be the foundation of all you do. Look for opportunities to show love to others – whether through a kind word, a small act of service, or a generous gift. Remember that love is the greatest gift we can give because it reflects the love God has shown us in Jesus.

Hymn

Savior, Teach Me, Day by Day

1 Savior, teach me, day by day, love’s sweet lesson to obey; sweeter lesson cannot be, loving him who first loved me.

2 With a child’s glad heart of love, at thy bidding may I move; prompt to serve and follow thee, loving him who first loved me.

3 Teach me thus thy steps to trace, strong to follow in thy grace; learning how to love from thee, loving him who first loved me.

4 Love in loving finds employ, in obedience all her joy; ever new that joy will be, loving him who first loved me.

Words: Jane Eliza Leeson, Music: Carl Maria von Weber

Closing Prayer

Father God, we are in awe of Your love for us, shown so clearly in the gift of Jesus. Thank You for sending Your Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Holy Spirit, empower us to love others as You have loved us. May our hearts overflow with Your love this Christmas and always. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

If you have been blessed by this Creative Devotional, please share it with others. Many thanks. God bless you!

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute and Axx Bible College. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
