Weekly Creative Devotional

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before you with grateful hearts, acknowledging that every good and perfect gift comes from you. As we embark on this time of reflection and creativity, we ask for your presence and guidance. Open our hearts to the beauty of gratitude and help us cultivate a spirit of thankfulness in our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

READING

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

REFLECTION

Take a moment to reflect on the power of gratitude in our lives. Consider the impact of giving thanks in all circumstances, not just when things are going well. Reflect on how a heart of gratitude can shift our perspective, bring contentment, and deepen our relationship with God. Ponder the ways in which you can cultivate a spirit of thankfulness in your daily life.

MEMORIZING THE VERSE

Write down and memorize 1 Thessalonians 5:18. This verse will serve as a reminder to give thanks in all circumstances and align our hearts with God’s will. Commit it to memory and carry it with you throughout the week, allowing it to shape your perspective and attitudes.

CREATING AND MEDITATING

In this part of the devotional, you have the option to choose between two creative activities:
  1. Journaling: Take out your journal and reflect on the blessings in your life. Write down specific things you are grateful for, big or small. Reflect on how these blessings have impacted you and express your gratitude to God. Consider incorporating drawings, doodles, or color to enhance your journal entries.
  2. Nature Walk: Take a walk in nature and observe the beauty around you. Pay attention to the intricate details, the sounds, and the colors. As you walk, offer prayers of gratitude for the wonders of creation. Take a moment to capture a photo or sketch something that catches your eye as a visual reminder of the blessings around you.

TAKING ACTION AND APPLYING

Consider practical ways you can cultivate a heart of gratitude in your daily life:
  1. Gratitude Journal: Start a gratitude journal, dedicating a few minutes each day to write down three things you are thankful for. This practice will help train your mind to focus on the positive and cultivate an attitude of gratitude.
  2. Express Thanks: Take time to express your gratitude to those around you. Write a heartfelt note, send a text, or make a phone call to someone you appreciate. Let them know how their presence or actions have blessed your life.
  3. Prayers of Thanksgiving: Begin your prayers with a focus on gratitude. Before presenting your requests, offer thanks to God for His goodness and faithfulness. Acknowledge His provision and blessings in your life.
  4. Serve Others: Look for opportunities to serve and bless others. Show kindness and generosity to those in need. By extending a helping hand, you not only impact others’ lives but also cultivate a heart of gratitude within yourself.

Hymn

Now Thank We All Our God

1.

Now thank we all our God,

With heart and hands and voices,

Who wondrous things hath done,

In whom His world rejoices;

Who from our mother’s arms

Hath blessed us on our way

With countless gifts of love,

And still is ours today.

2.

O may this bounteous God

Through all our life be near us,

With ever-joyful hearts

And blessed peace to cheer us;

And keep us in His grace,

And guide us when perplexed,

And free us from all ills

In this world and the next.

3.

All praise and thanks to God

The Father now be given,

The Son, and Him who reigns

With them in highest heaven,

The one eternal God,

Whom earth and heaven adore;

For thus it was, is now,

And shall be evermore.

Words: Martin Rinkart (translated by Catherine Winkworth), Music: Johann Crüger

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of gratitude and for the reminder to give thanks in all circumstances. As we conclude this time of reflection and creativity, we ask for your continued presence in our lives. Help us cultivate a heart of gratitude that overflows in our words, actions, and relationships. May we be a reflection of your goodness and grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian Ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute and Axx Bible College. Even though our Ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
