Kingdom Devotional – When Words Lead to Violence: Disagreeing Without Destruction

 

My Personal Reflection

This week, when I heard the news that Charlie Kirk had been tragically murdered while speaking at Utah Valley University, I was shocked and deeply saddened. It grieved me to see that disagreement escalated into such a horrific act of violence. No matter how much we may differ in opinions or beliefs, no human life should ever be taken.

Biblical Reflection on Disagreement, Rejection, and Murder

Jesus warned us that in this world there will be division, rejection, and even hatred toward those who speak truth (John 15:18–20). When beliefs clash, words can cut deeply – but when disagreement crosses into violence, it violates God’s most basic command:

“You shall not murder.”  – Exodus 20:13 (ESV)

Every life bears the image of God. To silence someone through hatred or violence is to reject God’s design and desecrate His image.

Even Jesus was despised and rejected – and ultimately killed – not because He sinned, but because He spoke truth (Isaiah 53:3; John 7:7). His example reminds us that disagreement is inevitable, but hatred is never acceptable.

What Fearless Truth-Living Looks Like

1. Speak truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).

2. Refuse to respond with violence or hate (Romans 12:17–21).

3. Protect both speech and life as sacred.

4. Trust God with justice (Psalm 37:1–6).

Word of Encouragement

If you have ever been afraid to speak truth, or if rejection and hostility have come against you, remember – Jesus walked this road before you. He faced rejection without responding in hatred. You, too, can be a witness of peace, love, and courage in a world that desperately needs it.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
My heart is heavy over the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk. I pray for his family and loved ones, that You would surround them with Your comfort and peace. Lord, forgive us when we allow hatred to rule over love, or violence over reason. Help us to speak truth in love, to honor life as sacred, and to walk in Your peace. Protect us from responding in anger, and fill us with the courage to follow Jesus’ example of grace and truth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Why Talk About the End Times?

From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture points us toward the unfolding plan of God. The Bible is not silent about the end of the age – in fact, Jesus Himself urged His disciples to be watchful and ready (Matthew 24:42).

The end times are not meant to make us fearful, but to awaken us. When we study them, we gain:

• Awareness of the times we live in.

• Wisdom to discern truth from deception.

• Urgency to live with holiness and purpose.

• Hope for the return of our Bridegroom, Jesus Christ.

 

A Biblical Foundation

Jesus said:

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.” — Matthew 24:6 (ESV)

The Lord didn’t share these signs to paralyze us with fear, but to strengthen us in faith and to remind us that God is in control.

Focus of This Series

In this End Times series, we will explore:

1. The signs of the times Jesus and the prophets spoke about.

2. How to remain watchful and steadfast in faith.

3. The dangers of deception and how to stand in truth.

4. The hope and promise of Christ’s glorious return.

 

Word of Encouragement

As children of God, we are not in darkness about what is coming (1 Thessalonians 5:4–5). We belong to the day, not the night – so let us walk in readiness, clothed in faith, love, and the hope of salvation.
