When Can You Be Saved?

The answer is right now. Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2 The assurance of salvation is only available while we are still living on this earth. You can’t be saved after you die and leave this earth. Since we don’t know how long we will live, we must not delay but make sure that we place our faith in Jesus and be saved now while there is still time. In Luke 16, especially, verse 26, we can read that receiving salvation after death is not possible. It’s the story about a rich man and Lazarus, a poor man. When both died, we can learn that the poor man was sent to Abraham and didn’t suffer anymore, while the rich man was sent to Hades where he was suffering and in anguish. This means that the poor man was sent to live with God because he was saved before he died. The rich man, however, was not saved before he died. He didn’t get another chance but had to stay in the place of torment. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ Luke 16:26 Let’s examine some other ideas of afterlife if they are biblical or not. Many people believe in reincarnation. This is a belief that we especially find in Eastern Religions and in the New Age Movement. Believers of these religions or movements think that after death, the non-physical essence of a living being starts a new life in a different physical form or body. It is also called rebirth or transmigration. (source: Wikipedia) Reincarnation is not a biblical concept. According to the Bible all people experience death once and then a judgment (Hebrews 9:27). Our earthly life determines our eternal destiny. After death, we have only two options – eternal life with Christ or eternal death in hell without Christ. (Luke 16:22-23) There are two other ideas that are popular which are annihilationism and purgatory. Annihilationists believe that people who are not saved and do not make it to heaven, will perish or be no more. They don’t believe in eternal death in hell. Purgatory is mainly taught in Roman Catholicism but also in some other Christian beliefs. It’s the idea that the souls of those who die in God’s grace can dwell in an intermediate state or place where they are purified from their sins or temporarily punished, and are then allowed to enter heaven. This idea is based on the extra-biblical book of 2 Maccabees and church tradition. However, there is no biblical support for both annihilationsm and purgatory. We only have one chance, which is actually already our second chance after man’s fall and the temporary atonement through the shed blood of innocent animals, to accept God’s gift of grace in this lifetime through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Don’t wait! Accept this gift now! This is definition number 5 for salvation.

5. Salvation is only available during our life on this earth. When you die and leave this earth, you can’t be saved anymore.

Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 3:2

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute. Even though our ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
