Last night my son had a dream in which his sister attacked him with 4 snakes who bit him in his mouth. After the bite, he felt poisoned and some strange disgusting fluid came out of his mouth. The most common reaction to this dream would be to say “It’s just a nightmare. Children get that sometimes.” Or you could say “It’s a demonic dream. Cancel the dream in Jesus’ name.” However, this is only a shallow approach of interpreting this dream. Dreams can come from our soul, from God or from Satan. To interpret a dream properly, it is important to know that dreams are mostly symbolic and always unique to the dreamer and their situation. And what is most important, dream interpretation belongs to God. This means we need to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning of a dream to us. They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.” Genesis 40:8 This is what the Holy Spirit revealed to me about the dream. The summary of this dream is that my son got bitten by 4 snakes which were sent by his sister. He felt poisoned afterwards. The key action in this dream is the bite of the 4 snakes. Next, we should look at the emotion. How did my son feel? He felt attacked, shocked, and poisoned. Now comes the most important part of dream interpretation – the setting. What happened in my son’s waking life while he got this dream? In his waking life, his sister was saying very mean words to him that hurt him very much and brought division, affliction, and oppression into their relationship. Finally, this is the interpretation of the dream. My daughter sent 4 snakes to her brother which means she spoke poisonous words to her brother which brought division, affliction, and oppression (the number 4) into their relationship. The snake bit my son in the mouth which means these venomous words (his poisoned feeling afterwards) gave him pain in his heart (mouth represents the heart) and he felt hurt. Here is some Scripture that supports this dream interpretation. But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. James 3:8-10 They make their tongue sharp as a serpent’s, and under their lips is the venom of asps. Selah Psalm 140:3 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. Matthew 15:18 “The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45 I explained to both of my children that it is very important to be aware of our tongue, the words we say to other people. The tongue is the most dangerous part of our body according to the Bible. What we speak can either have positive or negative effects on others and ourselves, can hurt or encourage, can speak life or death. What we say reveals what is in our hearts. Here is what the Bible says about our tongue and the words we speak. There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18 Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble. Proverbs 21:23 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29 But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. James 3:8-10 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Proverbs 18:21 For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; 1 Peter 3:10 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. James 1:26 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. James 3:6 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! James 3:5 We should always be wise with our words and think before we speak. Sometimes it is better to say nothing at all because it keeps you from saying something bad or stupid. Jesus told us that we “will have to give account for every careless word that we have spoken on the day of judgment.” Matthew 12:36 Here are some more Bible verses that speak about the power of words. A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1 Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body. Proverbs 16:24 A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. Proverbs 15:4 Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. Proverbs 13:3 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4:6 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:37 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. Matthew 15:18 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. Proverbs 15:2 Therefore, always be aware of your tongue!

ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We are a non-denominational Bible-believing Christian ministry trained and equipped at the Christian Leaders Institute. Even though our ministry is based on God's Word, the Bible, you need to approach our teachings like the Bereans and always study the Bible yourself to see if what we teach is aligned with what is written in the Bible.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

We are only humans who 'stumble in many ways' (James 3:2) and we only 'know in part and we prophesy in part' (1 Corinthians 13:9).
